THE CONCEPT
Pursuing a dream
Pompaelo Wines was born to realize a long-awaited dream:to create honest wines with distinctive personality respecting the expression of the land and at the same time to please the most discriminating palate.
This is how a group of friends passionate about wine and with a long experience in various fields of the industry, decided to join forces and begin this adventure with excitement, enthusiasm and passion.
Our Philosophy is based in a strict market oriented policy and the permanent innovation in the quality, style and image, due to the constant feedback provided by our customers.
Some History
By the year 75 b.C “civitas pompelonensis”, Pompaelo city was born, acquiring its name from its founder, the Roman General Pompeyo. Nowadays, Pamplona city capital of Navarra region in northern Spain.
The Romans were the ones who organized and developed viticulture in Navarra. They also improved the local agriculture by replacing the rudimentary tools for new devices and production systems.
As they were great wine lovers, the Romans encourage the local production of each of the places they conquered and made wine be the base of their parties and rituals, a symbol of comfort.
New aromas, new flavors
Our job consists in creating a unique style of wine. We start at the vineyards, selecting the best grapes grown by local producers which are followed through the harvesting and vinification processes after which the wines from each variety are obtained.
It is here where our greatest contribution takes place: the blending process. This process consists in combining the wines from a group of varieties in order to give life to a unique and new wine.
Having decided on the "Coupage" and achieved concrete blend, each wine is prepared either for aging in the case of our red wines or directly proceed to bottling in the case of our white and rosé wines.
THE PLACE
Navarra
Navarra is situated in northern Spain, between Bordeaux and La Rioja regions, it is an exceptionally attractive area, with a wide range of natural landscapes, where the climate and soil are suitable for grape growing.
The old tradition of vine growing and wine production where the artisan process was transmitted from generation to generation, made this land a place with a unique personality rooted in the old European history.
The Climate
From North to South, Navarra shows a variety of climates, which range from humid, temperate, atlantic climate found in the north to the more continental and Mediterranean climate found in the Ribera, along the Ebro river in the south.
The Soils
The tipical soils of the Mediterranean branch of the Ebro River are the base of the surface planted with vineyards in Navarra. This surface is formed in general by lime and brown lime soils along the river basins in the southern areas.
D.O. Navarra
There are currently over 14.000 ha. of vineyards under the Denomination of Origin. This surface is divided into 5 different sub-areas which cover from middle Navarra to the south of the region.
